Lot Information

Lot Description

Full-body, low-impact workout that mimics the motion of cross-country skiing, engaging multiple muscle groups simultaneously. The exercise involves a pulling motion (simulating ski pole action) and, when standing, leg and core engagement for stability and power. The primary muscle groups affected are:

  1. Upper Body (Arms, Shoulders, Back):
    • Latissimus Dorsi (Upper Back): Primary movers during the pulling motion, as you draw the handles downward, simulating the pole pull in skiing.
    • Trapezius and Rhomboids (Upper Back/Shoulders): Stabilise the shoulder blades and assist in retracting them during the pull, maintaining posture.
    • Deltoids (Shoulders): Support arm movement and stabilise the shoulder joint during both the pull (downward phase) and recovery (return phase).
    • Triceps Brachii (Back of Upper Arm): Extend the arms during the downward pull, especially in the double-pole technique.
    • Biceps Brachii (Front of Upper Arm): Flex the elbows to initiate the pull, particularly in alternating-arm techniques.
    • Forearm Muscles (Flexors and Extensors): Control grip on the strapless handles and stabilise wrist movements throughout the stroke.
  2. Core (Torso):
    • Rectus Abdominis and Obliques: Engage to stabilise the torso and facilitate the slight forward lean and hip hinge during the pull, transferring power from the upper to lower body.
    • Transverse Abdominis: Provides core stability, preventing excessive spinal movement and supporting efficient force transmission.
    • Erector Spinae (Lower Back): Maintain spinal alignment and assist in the controlled forward and backward lean, especially during intense efforts.
  3. Lower Body (Legs, Hips):
    • Glutes (Buttocks): Power the hip extension during the pull, particularly when standing, as you drive through the hips to initiate the movement.
    • Quadriceps (Front of Thigh): Stabilise the legs and contribute to the slight knee bend and extension during standing exercises, mimicking ski strides.
    • Hamstrings (Back of Thigh): Assist in hip extension and stabilise the legs during the dynamic motion.
    • Calves (Gastrocnemius and Soleus): Stabilise the ankles and support balance, especially when standing on a floor stand or platform.
